Had President Bharrat Jagdeo not been a member of the cabinet for nearly fifteen years, his latest instruction for an investigation into illegalities at the Guyana Revenue Authority’s Customs and Trade Administration would have been an impressive initiative to excise the cancer of corruption.

Dear Editor, In Sunday Stabroek (April 20, 2008) in a report headlined, “Dawa pump station to be commissioned shortly” Mr Dharamlall, Head of the Guyana Rice Project Management Unit is purported to have told SN that ‘a fully functioning Dawa pumping station would also mitigate flooding during times of heavy rainfall’.

Dear Editor, It’s quite frightening when one gets the impression that the death of a mother at the hands of her abusive husband is treated as “just another bit of news”.

Dear Editor,  It may have been a laughing matter last week when the CEO of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Mr Karan Singh was being forced by an angry mob in East Canje that pressured him (pun intended) to drink water from the taps of East Canje villages, but the entire episode carried a very serious meaning.

Dear Editor, I was travelling from Brazil by land to Georgetown and was surprised at the treatment from the immigration personnel who demanded $3,000 from each Brazilian national to get a stamp into Guyana.
