Minister Lall’s gun licence should be withdrawn

Dear Editor, While the Minister of Home Affairs waxes about the rule of law, and many proceed to morally preen themselves while vilifying the supposed ill-conduct of villagers in Buxton and residents of Ruimveldt in the GPL issue, we are witnesses to the most awful and disgusting abuses of the law by those occupying the very pinnacles of power in the society.

Stewardship of mature or old forests does not contribute significantly to the objectives of the Kyoto Protocol

Dear Editor, The Stabroek News (SN) editorial (Nov 22, 07), “Preparing for the Bali conference on climate change”, discussed some of the challenges facing the planet with regard to this major issue, and also supported the notion of incentives for the stewardship of forests as an effective approach to help in the battle against climate change.

Dear Editor, Guyana has been a recipient of tremendous assistance from the subcontinent, India in all areas of development; such as technical training in the form of ITEC scholarships, infrastructural development (this is quite conspicuous in the successful completion of the beautiful cricket stadium and installation of the much needed traffic lights in Georgetown).

If the allegations that Patrick Sumner, Victor Jones and David Leander were tortured can be proven, some members of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force are likely to be in big trouble.
