Dear Editor, Nothing works in Guyana. I’ll start with two important ones, which in my opinion, interferes with the functioning of other sectors.

Dear Editor, We live in the age of contortionists, distortionists, twisters and “analytical” spinners who pretend to be geniuses and who can take down any academic or intellectual at will.

Dear Editor, In a recent statement, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, the General Secretary of People’s Progressive Party (PPP), promised that the party would “debunk” the opposition claims regarding lies, lawlessness and corruption when Donald Trump takes office.

Dear Editor, Notwithstanding Vincent Alexander’s assertion a few weeks ago that; “People should not acquiescence to any election that is not conducted after these things are implemented,” he persists with what appears to be an obsession with certain electoral matters that bother him so much so that they appear to weigh heavily on his thinking.

With the price for gold on the international market around US$2,668 per ounce, the attraction for licit and illicit mining in the interior remains high and accompanied by all of the usual depredations: deforestation, reckless use of mercury and the pollution of rivers among others. 

Dear Editor, I am constantly reminded of the contributions made by great philosophers, who in their own rights examined and wrote theories on varying aspects of societal issues, and how society should function.

Dear Editor, Congratulations to the 11 recipients of honourary doctorates from the University of Guyana. 

Dear Editor, Inclusionary government is mandated by the Guyana Constitution not dependent on partisan trust.

Dear Editor, The appointment process for Notaries Public in Guyana is in need of reform.

Dear Editor, We applaud the PPP/C government for appointing 10 Puisne Judges and several magistrates to reduce the backlog of cases and to ensure that cases are tried in a timely manner.

Dear Editor, The recent brouhaha over GuySuCo was missing focus on solutions.

Dear Editor, The nation eagerly and anxiously awaits the roll out of the cash grant.

Earlier this week, the Department of Public Information (DPI) informed us that the lack of progress on the construction of the state-of-the-art maternal and paediatric hospital on the lower East Coast Demerara and the news that it was unlikely to be completed before the last quarter of next year had vexed President Irfaan Ali.

Dear Editor, Yesterday being November 5th, 2024, is there equivocation in the Government’s now modified   announcement of the handout being $100,000?

Dear Editor, In the ongoing discourse around the government’s cash grant app, an important consideration that deserves attention is the acceptance of life certificates as a viable substitute for in-person appearances.
