Dear Editor, When the Caribbean Court of Justice ruled that two terms is all one gets to a presidential slot in our Guyana, upholding constitutionally enacted changes, I am sure those learned judges could not have meant for the Putin/Medvedev syndrome to be put into action via a questionable and weak proxy candidate, by a man who will not accept his time is past.

GuyTIE II

With markedly less aplomb than its 2018 predecessor, the Guyana Trade and Investment Exhibition (GuyTIE) 2020 was officially launched last Wednesday at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, the comparatively low key nature of the event signalling, perhaps, a veiled official  concession that last year’s inaugural event staged at the Marriott Hotel had fallen well short of  its widely advertised objectives, not least of those being the growing of the global market for Guyanese products and the significant strengthening of linkages between the local and international business sectors.

Credible accounts of gross human rights violations in Haiti must be addressed by CARICOM

Dear Editor, On April 24, 2019 Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) led a delegation to Haiti, which included actor and human rights activist Danny Glover; journalist and Barbados national Margaret Prescod of Pacifica Radio’s “Sojourner Truth” and Women of Color/Global Women’s Strike; civil rights lawyer Walter Riley; Haitian diaspora leader Pierre Labossiere; and human rights lawyer Brian Concannon of the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti.
