A golden era of occupational safety and health

Dear Editor, Your editorial ‘Stepping up our occupational safety and health record’ (SN: 14/04/2019)  stated, ‘Historically, the Ministry of Social Protection (it used to be called the Ministry of Labour, previously) has, over the years, been markedly indifferent to its responsibility in the matter of the effective enforcement of workplace safety regulations.

This increase should have been applicable to all NIS pensioners

Dear Editor, Earlier in the year, when the announcement was made by the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) that pensioners receiving $30,000 monthly would have received a further $2,000, as of January, 2019 on their monthly pension, it was reasonable to assume that this increase was going to be across the board, calculated based on a percentage, similar to what has been done with the workers— the higher your salary, the less you get percentage wise. 

Landmark decision

On the 1st of May, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), an international court for sports based in Geneva, Switzerland, handed down a decision that will forever change the landscape of the sporting world.
