Overt ops

Last year’s Orwell Prize winner, British journalist Carole Cadwalladr, has done a stellar amount of research on what actually caused Britain to vote to leave the European Union.

Amna Ally trivialised significance of objections to Kadir motion

Dear Editor, An NCN “Government responds to the US Embassy” report on the evening of April 29, 2019 presented the General Secretary of the People’s National Congress Reform, Minister Amna Ally’s pathetic response to the US Embassy’s “objection, in the strongest terms, to the actions taken in the National Assembly to pay homage to former Member of Parliament Abdul Kadir, who was convicted of conspiring to commit acts of terrorism on US soil”.

Irreparable damage done by Kadir motion

Dear Editor, From the outset, let me say first as a Guyanese citizen, second as a former Minister of Foreign and Home Affairs and third, as an elected member of the Eleventh parliament of Guyana, I totally and unequivocally disassociate myself from the motion moved and passed in the National Assembly glorifying a former PNCR member of parliament, who was jailed by the US authorities for planning and plotting the destruction of the JFK international airport through which millions traverse either to destinations within America or to other parts of the world.

Sugar estates had a rich socio-cultural life

Dear Editor, Mr E. B. John’s letter in yesterday’s Stabroek News provides a good opportunity for me to express appreciation for the far-reaching initiatives taken by leaders like himself and the indomitable Harold B Davis (Snr) to develop the socio-cultural aspects of the sugar estate communities; workers and the community at large were encouraged to participate in dance, drama, debates, sports and community interactions.

Watching the years of Nrityageet

Dear Editor, “Nrityageet has followed a path of diversity through dance, and Guyanese of all ethnic origins share and perform Indian dance of different dance styles…” The writer can attest to having experienced the first performance by Nrityageet at Queen’s College and becoming a devotee throughout the years, including those when the group performed at the Chinese (Cosmos) Sports Club – an interlude omitted in the article published in SN of Saturday 27, 2019.

We must do more to help our young athletes

Mr. Julian Edmonds, the Head Coach of Guyana’s CARIFTA Games team that brought away a record 10 medals (four gold, two silver and four bronze) from the recently concluded 48th staging of the event in the Cayman Islands is perfectly correct.
