Matthews: WI women’s cricket brightest star

By Tony McWatt “She’s a very special person!” That was the Facebook listed description of one adoring fan, immediately after Hayley Matthews had posted her career-best bowling figures of 4/15-10 overs to help the West Indies to yet another nail-biting win in their 2022 International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Women’s World Cup campaign.

Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward football tourney granted GFF approval

Following the approval by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) for the staging of the annual Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward 9-a-side knockout tournament, coordinator Lennox Arthur has confirmed that all systems are in place, with Mid Atlantic Oil and Gas Company confirming sponsorship of the $600,000 first prize.

Athletes record personal bests

Several standout athletes made hay in the brilliant sunshine yesterday at the National Track and Field Centre, some recording personal best performances but the number remained at nine qualifiers for this year’s CARIFTA Games in Jamaica.
