Who can solve the Benko puzzle?

The diagram represents a puzzle which was created in 1968 by eminent Hungarian-American chess grandmaster and world championship candidate Pal Benko.

Children’s tournament helping with development of the game

The Red Cherry Restaurant sponsored seven-round chess tournament for children and youth to improve the quality of their game and ensure that chess is more competitive is being hosted this weekend.

One thousand primary school pupils engaged in a chess tournament in Bremen, Germany. The tournament’s theme was “Schach macht schlau” (“Chess makes you smart”). The pupils of Bremen primary schools learn chess once per week on a structured basis. Over the years, a similar initiative was discussed in Guyana, but the idea of structured chess was never realised. Psychologists are on record as saying chess helps a child to focus. Date set for Chess Federation elections

The 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) will be held on July 21 at the Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue, from 10 am.
