The National School of Theatre Arts and Drama (NSTAD) opens its doors this week for the new academic year, offering training in the creative arts in a range of disciplines to another group of students and interested practitioners.

Almost two years ago when COVID-19 became a reality in Guyana and schools were shut, Monix Hetemeyer, a teacher, saw how students around her were suffering and with the support of other like-minded colleagues, she started an online platform – Teachers’ Initiative Online Programme – to assist in teaching students who were not being engaged at the time.

The Base

Looking back at it, so many years later after it came into being, that was the name, The Base,  most commonly used to refer to Guyana’s international airport, Atkinson Field, which had been created during World War Two, as the jumping-off point from North America for US Air Force planes headed for the Far East and Europe.
