(Reuters) – As evidence grew this spring that the drug remdesivir was helping COVID-19 patients, some Wall Street investors bet on analysts’ estimates that its maker, Gilead Sciences Inc, could charge up to $10,000 for the treatment.

Introduction The primary concern of last week’s column was to get a handle on the extent to which lagging output in Guyana’s infant oil and gas sector, combined with expected price declines for Guyana’s crude exports provide a proxy indication of the shortfalls in Guyana’s export earnings, Government revenues and ultimately its GDP.

Painful words

It has been a painful week for all Guyanese. The murders of Joel and Isaiah Henry and Haresh Singh left me feeling depleted, to the point where I feel guilty of even thinking of experiencing any form of joy in the foreseeable future.

Documenting our national treasures

By Stanley Greaves Al Creighton’s admirable and very informative recent article on the late George Simon served as a further reminder to me of the absence of publications on the lives of Guyanese who over the ages have made significant contributions to Guyana in many fields of endeavour that add to the cultural development of the land.

The brutal escalation of inflation

In a statement last week, the WPA accused the new PPP government, in office for only a month, of already creating a criminal state, establishing racial insecurity and animosity, dismissing “hundreds” of Afro-Guyanese, winking at Indian Guyanese men beating women and children in the public square and seeking sexual favours.
